Are you the parent of a teen who is about to apply for a learner driver’s permit? Perhaps you have started to shop around for Oregon auto insurance cover for your teen, and have been dismayed at the cost of teen car insurance. Eugene parents who shop around carefully may be able to reduce the cost of coverage for their teen drivers.

One of our local Eugene insurance agents will be pleased explain the costs involved in insuring teen drivers in Oregon and will request quotes from a variety of different insurers and help you to evaluate them. Your agent might suggest that you:

  • Add a teen to a parent’s auto insurance policy. This option is usually considerably more affordable than teenagers purchasing their own insurance.
  • Have your son or daughter complete a driver education course. Teens who have taken a recognized driver training course may qualify for discounts.
  • Choose a high deductible. The higher the deductible you choose, the lower the insurance premiums.
  • Assign the teen to the least valuable car if appropriate.

Your insurance agent may recommend that you purchase umbrella liability insurance to cover legal costs if your teen is involved in a car accident and you are sued for damages that exceed the limit.  With car insurance, Eugene parents will be pleased to note that insurance rates are likely to drop in time, provided that a good driving record is maintained by the teenager.
